Deion Sanders Inks New Deal

Deion Sanders recently extended his contract with the Colorado Buffaloes, earning 10 million a year through 2029 totaling 54 million.

Yep that’s right, 10 million a year. This extension comes after a very successful season for the Buffaloes as they went 9-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

If you can remember, the Buffs were a team that no one thought of until Coach Sanders got there, as they went 1-11 in 2022, along with not having a winning season since 2016, going 10-4 that year.

Now, there are many people who feel that Coach Sanders doesn’t deserve such a large contract after only two seasons, his first ending with a losing record and his second not making the playoffs or winning the bowl game, which many thought he would do. But I for one am all for it.

Before coming to Colorado, Coach Sanders was at HBCU Jackson State, where he, his two sons Shiloh and Sheduer, and the number one player in the 2022 class made it a household name. Having winning records in three seasons there, Coach Sanders decided it was time to make a jump into D1 power 5 football.

While he received a large amount of backlash for this, he knew that he would be able to turn the team around, even though many said he wouldn’t be able to compete and that power 5 football is not the same and is much more competitive than playing in the SWAC conference.

Coach Sanders has managed to turn the Buffs around in two short years, including having his star player Travis Hunter bring home the 2024 Heisman trophy, the Walter Camp award, the Chuck Bednarik award, and the Fred Biletnikoff award, while his son Sheduer brought home the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award.

Now headed into the 2025 season, he has Kaidon Salter, a transfer quarterback from Liberty who is already proven, and 2025 commit Julian “JuJu” Lewis ready to compete for the starting job to help bring Colorado a Big 12 championship and possibly, a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
