It was a complete team performance and the kind of win that sets a strong tone for Opening Weekend.
West Georgia struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Megan Waites crossed the plate after reaching base and advancing aggressively, while Jenna Samuel also scored early as the Wolves took a 2–1 lead. Bellarmine answered back in the third inning, briefly pulling ahead 3–2, but that lead did not last long.
The Wolves tied things up in the bottom of the third when Jenna Samuel scored on an RBI double from Madison McDonald, evening the game at 3–3. From there, UWG completely took control.
The turning point came in the fifth inning when West Georgia exploded for seven runs. Jenna Samuel, Bekah Johnson, and Madison Humber all scored during the rally, highlighted by a grand slam from Madison McDonald, who finished the game with five RBIs. Moments later, Kylie Fowler added even more momentum with a three-run home run, scoring Ella Oswalt and Jadyn Tummins along with herself.
UWG added its final run in the sixth inning when Jenna Samuel scored again, this time on an RBI groundout by Dixiana Sims, sealing the 11–3 run-rule victory.
In the circle, Delaney Hoyle earned the win, throwing five strong innings in relief and holding Bellarmine to just two runs while keeping the Wolves in control.
Opening Day showed exactly what this West Georgia team is capable of. With offensive production spread throughout the lineup and strong pitching to back it up, the Wolves could not have asked for a better start to the 2026 season.
UWG will continue Opening Weekend play with more games ahead, looking to build on early momentum and keep making noise.
