UWG Women’s Basketball Vs. Mississippi College 2/28/24

Mistakes allowed the Choctaws to score first but shortly have Zuriyah Davis strike back with a solid three-pointer. After the shot, the defense for the Wolves was not doing well as Mississippi College was taking full advantage of wide-open shots. Substitutions were made for the Wolves, and with K’Nari Holliday checked in, she could get going in the paint as she put up a solid bucket. The defensive pressure started to pick up, and the Lady Wolves started forcing turnovers on the Choctaws. Then K’Nari Holliday was back to rebounding, and Mykah Anderson laced a three and took the lead. The defense was bringing full-court pressure to the Choctaws and caused a turnover. They stayed with it until the end of the first, trailing 11-14.

Starting the second quarter, K’Nari Holliday immediately began the offense by scoring. The ball started going both ways, and both offenses were making their shots, along with the Wolves’ defense starting to play better. With 4:45 left in the second, the Lady Wolves finally took back the lead 22-17. This caused the Choctaws to press the Wolves full-court, which did not benefit them because Aliyah Washington and Jada Powell started scoring. Striking fear into Mississippi College, and at the end of the second quarter, the Lady Wolves were leading 31-23 to head into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, Mississippi College had a lot of confusion, and Alyiyah Washington and Jada Powell added four to the lead. Starting the fourth, Aliyah Washington and K’Nari Holliday scored seven combined points. The defense was also holding steady, with minimal fouls being called.
