West Georgia Looks to Bounce Back Against Abilene Christian

The West Georgia Wolves are looking to shake off last week’s loss and get back on track this Saturday when they take on Abilene Christian. After falling to Austin Peay 44–30 on the road, the Wolves have something to prove especially with a tough opponent like ACU coming to town.

Last week’s game against Austin Peay was wild from start to finish. There were four ties, six lead changes, and plenty of moments where it looked like the Wolves might pull it off. But the Governors took control in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points to seal the win. West Georgia’s offense put up 362 yards, but turnovers and missed opportunities ended up being the difference. Quarterback Davin Wydner threw for 132 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game in the third quarter, and that definitely slowed things down for UWG’s offense.

Still, there were bright spots the Wolves showed they could move the ball and hang with a solid Austin Peay team. But if they want to compete this week, the defense has to tighten up, especially against big plays late in the game.

Now, the focus shifts to Abilene Christian and this one won’t be easy. The Wildcats are 3–3 overall but undefeated in conference play, and they’re ranked No. 19 in the FCS. Their quarterback, Stone Earle, has been on fire recently, starting one game 13-for-13 passing with four touchdowns. That means West Georgia’s secondary is going to have its hands full all afternoon.

For the Wolves, this game is about responding. Every team faces adversity at some point in the season, it’s how they bounce back that matters. West Georgia needs to protect the football, keep drives alive, and finish strong in the fourth quarter. Their run game and short passing attack will be key in keeping Abilene Christian’s offense off the field.

Saturday’s game at University Stadium will be a big test, but also a big opportunity. A win over a ranked team would send a strong message that West Georgia belongs among the best in the UAC. After the heartbreak in Clarksville, the Wolves are hungry and they’ll have the home crowd behind them as they try to make a statement.
