West Georgia survives a late comeback attempt to secure a postseason victory
Postseason basketball is officially underway, and the Wolves made sure their first step into the ASUN Tournament was a winning one.
The University of West Georgia Wolves men’s basketball defeated the North Florida Ospreys men’s basketball 93 to 85 on Wednesday night in the opening round of the ASUN Men’s Basketball Tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals after an energetic performance that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
West Georgia came out firing early, controlling the tempo and building a strong first half lead. The Wolves went into halftime up 48 to 35 after putting together an aggressive offensive stretch that kept North Florida scrambling to keep up.
The momentum continued early in the second half when West Georgia extended the lead to as many as 23 points. With the offense clicking and the defense forcing difficult shots, the Wolves looked firmly in control.
But postseason basketball rarely comes easy.
North Florida refused to go quietly and mounted a late comeback attempt, cutting the lead down to just four points in the final moments of the game. The Ospreys pushed the pace and found a rhythm offensively, briefly putting pressure on the Wolves as the clock ticked down.
West Georgia stayed composed when it mattered most.
The Wolves knocked down key free throws in the closing seconds to shut down the comeback and seal the 93 to 85 victory.
The win showcased the offensive firepower and resilience that West Georgia can bring when the stakes are highest. Despite the late push from North Florida, the Wolves maintained their composure and finished strong.
With the victory secured, West Georgia now turns its attention to the next round of the ASUN Tournament. If Wednesday night’s performance was any indication, the Wolves are ready for the challenge ahead.
