Michigan's Danny Wolf Has NBA Star Potential

I remember it was one of those chilly days in December and I was just sitting in my dorm room watching the Michigan and Arkansas game in the Jimmy V Classic. During this game, one player caught my attention. He looked tall from when I was watching it on the television, and his original position was center. But he didn’t play like one.

When I saw how he was dribbling and passing the ball, I automatically knew he had something special. Danny Wolf, the Michigan Wolverine, has shown me that he could be a potential future NBA star.

Many people did not know about Danny Wolf before the 2024-25 college basketball season started. Wolf started his college career at Yale University, where he was a first-team All-Ivy League selection and led the Ivy League in rebounding his sophomore season.

He made major improvements from his freshman to sophomore year in scoring, jumping from 2.6 points per game to 14.7 points per game.

From the game versus Arkansas until now, Danny Wolf has been nothing short of spectacular. He is averaging a near double-double, with 12.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

For Danny Wolf to be as skilled as he is at 7-foot, it is insane how he is not a projected first-round draft pick in some of these mock drafts. The guy can see the floor, play in the pick and roll, and move like butter on the court. If he decides to enter the draft, no team will lose anything by drafting him. If anything, they will get a player who is very skilled and understands how to play the game of basketball, which is always a plus.

Danny Wolf just has a basketball mind and if you truly know basketball, you can see it in how he plays. It’s just phenomenal how skilled and fundamentally sound he is as a 7-footer.

I believe Wolf has a lot of upside. He definitely is not a second-round pick in my eyes. He has been a major factor in the Wolverines being a top 25 team in the nation as the second leading scorer on the team.

Whether Danny Wolf decides to stay in college for another year or declare for the NBA draft is totally up to him. But one thing for sure is that he will only get better and better as time goes on. There is no doubt in my mind that he’s destined for greatness.
