UWG women’s Basketball Vs. West Florida 1/31/24

Here is my perspective of the Women’s game back in January

The Lady Wolves came into the game looking for a win against the Argonauts for the first time in three years.

West Georgia won the tip-off with the offense starting cold, but the defense was on fire. The team caused West Florida to put up some airballs and be unable to score for a while. Katelyn Dunning was able to strike first. Fouls happened between both teams, but our very own K’Nari Holiday was able to get started in the paint. The Lady Wolves defense was firm to the Argonauts, leading to shot confusion, which led to Zuriyah Davis putting solid scores in the paint as well. Then, the first quarter ended with the Wolves leading 16-10.

Once again, the defense for the Wolves was pouncing all over the Argonauts and letting Katelyn Dunning, Aliyah Washington, and Jada Powell expand the lead to 23-11. From the explosive plays, K’Nari Holiday was back in the paint, putting up great shots and stellar defense. Zuriyah Davis also put up a big three and let the first half with West Georgia leading 33-16.

Coming back from halftime, the Wolves looked to hold the lead, but West Florida started hot. When the Wolves called a timeout, they still had the lead. But Zuriyah Davis hit a nice three, and K’Nari Holiday grabbed some solid rebounds. Halfway through the third, the Wolves still held a good lead. K”Nari Holiday was back at it, putting up for two, and Zuriyah Davis put up another three-pointer. At the end of the third quarter, West Georgia led 50-39.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Argonauts took advantage of the mistakes and cut the lead down to three points. This game just got closer than expected and had fans on the edge of their seats. Once West Florida tied the game at 54 a piece, K’Nari Davis had a huge block and was later able to score two to help put the Wolves back in front. With 2:39 left, the Lady Wolf’s defense and rebounds were on cue. K’Nari Davis again put up two great buckets to expand our lead to 66-61 with a minute left. Having little time, West Florida was in trouble, started fouling, and let your West Georgia Women’s Basketball team beat West Florida 71-64.

This game was a great performance for the Wolves, and my stand-out player of the game was K’Nari Davis. She played a very well-rounded game and helped secure the win for the Wolves. Now your Lady Wolves are 12-8 and hit the road to play our rivals Valdosta State next week.
